Sponsorships
The sponsorships are used to fund the following activities
Agriculture: Introduces new crops, vegetables, fruits and improved methods of producing each.
Health: Conducts health and nutrition training in schools, women's groups and children's groups.
* Children under 5 years and lactating mothers received Vitamin A. * Women’s groups produced different vegetables, and many children received de-worming medicines.
Animal Health: Introduced a new method to control the spread of "sleeping sickness" to the region.
* From 1999, handed over to two local agricultural co-operatives established in the project area. * Made progress in turning over the program to the local communities. * Two locally hired animal health staff completed the veterinary technician course of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Conservation and Reforestation: Works with the community to reclaim degraded lands and to reverse soil erosion.
* 3.5 million tree and fodder seedlings were raised and planted at communal and private lots.
Water: Provides clean drinking water by capping springs and digging wells and then turning them over to the community.
* 12 wells and spring sites were developed with active community participation. * 2 small scale irrigation sites were developed. * 2,300 people now have access to safe, clean water. * 40 households produced vegetables for home consumption and the market.
Community Leader Training: Emphasizes capacity building for community-based organizations.
* 5 community-based development associations were established in Meta Robi. * A workshop was conducted for 50 leaders of different Protestant denominations in Meta Robi. * Leaders became increasingly active in co-ordinating various development activities.
